Dr. Abdul Rao Seamlessly Bridged Research At USF And Across USF Health Campuses

Dr. Abdul Rao is a learned scholar who completed his medical degree from Dow Medical University, Karachi, Pakistan in 1983. He joined the Department of Physiology, Boston University School of Medicine and graduated in 1989 with a Masters in Physiology after concluding his residency training in Orthopedic Surgery. Not just this, he also completed a year of Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in the Department of Neurology, Harvard Medical School. Furthermore, Dr. Abdul Rao joined the Nuffield Department of Surgery, University of Oxford, Oxford UK, as a clinical instructor from 1990-1993. He then graduated from the University of Oxford with a D. Phil (Doctor of Philosophy) in Transplantation Immunology in 1993.


Dr. Abdul Rao has delivered and authored numerous presentations related to research and graduate education. USF Heath, also known as a principal institution which aims to upgrade health in the wider environment for communities and for specific institutions. Dr. Abdul Rao, at USF, served as the Senior Associate Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies. At the three USF colleges of Medicine, Nursing and Public Health, he was eminent for being the leader of the research. He admirably helped in seamlessly bridging research at USF and across USF Health campuses.

Dr. Abdul Rao has also been the Vice Provost for Research and sponsored programs and Dean, College of graduate studies at the Middle Tennessee State University where he was working as the Professor of Biology. Apart from this, he also served the institute by being actively involved for the Research Council for the Tennessee Board of Regents, also known as the sixth largest higher education system in the United States. It has a total strength of over 180,000 students who are enrolled in 45 universities, community colleges and technology centers.

The then Vice President of USF Health and Dean of the College of Medicine, Stephen Klasko M.D., M.B.A., pronounced that Dr. Abdul Rao is the next frontier on bringing complex scientific findings to bear on improving health.
